5 Insider Reasons to Choose Professional Cleaning for Your Move Out Cleaning

An image of a checklist showing all of the items necessary for a move out cleaning.

If you’ve just sold your property or your lease is up, the last thing you probably want to deal with is cleaning before you move out. Here are our top four reasons to hire a professional house cleaning company for your move out cleaning.

Typical Move Out Cleaning Times

A professional house cleaner typically needs around 2 hours to clean every 500 square feet.
That means for a 2,500 square foot home, you are looking at roughly 9 hours of cleaning time. Without a lunch break!

And don’t forget, once your furniture and appliances are gone, that’s when you start finding all of those missing socks, Christmas dust bunnies, and 1990s funk that you haven’t seen in a very, very long time.

Here at Dallas Sunrise Maids, we clean over 300 properties per week and always have two person cleaning teams, meaning it would take us about four and a half hours for our 2,500 square foot property example above. Key here is us (or any professional house cleaning company), not you.

Unless of course you have some spare time to do your own move out clean, in which case, have at it 🙂

Cleaning Equipment: If You Don’t Have It, You’re Going To Need It

Most professional cleaning companies will carry at least 30 different kinds of cleaning products and cleaning supplies, some of which are used exclusively for a move our cleaning.

If you’ve just moved into a new property, it’s a great idea to stock up on everything you’ll need to keep it clean for many years in advance. However, if you are getting ready to move, the last thing you want is to pack up a bunch of half used cleaning supplies that will otherwise have to be tossed.

Got spider webs and ceiling fans? You’ll want to leave a few chairs in the home to get up high unless you want to buy a 12’ extension along with a special tip to clean the ceiling fan blades and get the dust out of the light fixtures.

How about cleaning the floors?

Well, if you want to make sure you get your rental deposit back or fulfill the cleaning requirements of your real estate contract, you’ll need to pick up two commercial grade, hepa-filtered vacuum cleaners. Between the canister vacuum and an upright, figure around $1,000 for something decent that will pick up pet hair, dander, dust, and debris. We purchase all of our commercial grade vacuum cleaners from Jay over at Lonestar Vacuums 🙂

Don’t forget Granite Gold for the countertops, Zep to clean your grout, Weiman for your stainless steel, Clorox with Bleach for your toilets, Bona for the floors, Lysol, Dawn, Mister Clean and on and on and on.

Between equipment and cleaning supplies, plan on spending around $1,500 if you want to get the move out cleaning done like a professional. And dont forget, a move out clean is basically a deep clean with extra details.

For starters, a move out cleaning requires getting rid of spider webs, clearing any dust-obstructed air vents, ceiling fans, blinds, window sills, all the way down to the baseboards. The same deep clean should also include cleaning the cabinets and drawers, vacuuming and mopping the floors and cleaning all other surfaces such as the countertops, sinks, showers and toilets.

But wait, there’s more!

A move out clean also requires a thorough cleaning of the inside of the drawers, closets and cabinets as well as the inside of any appliances like the fridge or oven.

That Final Move Out Check

Whether it’s the landlord, the new residents, or the real estate agent checking your property upon move out, you’ll want to make sure it’s spic and span in order to complete the terms of your lease or purchase and sale agreement. And get your deposit back!

How awesome would it be to have to go back and clean after having already moved into a new property? Not very awesome.

Granted, a surface level move out clean might suffice for some, but may very well prevent you from getting your rental deposit back or even trigger a non-compliance clause in your contract such that now you have to hire a pro to clean. After you cleaned. UGH!

You get the idea.

Closure

Moving from one property to another is complicated. From sorting out what you are going to keep to packing it up and getting it physically moved, not to mention shutting off the old utilities, getting the new utilities turned on…the list goes on and on.

Why add a full day of cleaning to your list?

And not just that, why incur the extra expense of loading up on professional equipment and cleaning supplies?

And shoot, even if you go thru all of that trouble, you may discover that the new resident is even pickier that you are when it comes to a cleaning inspection, meaning you may end up having to hire a professional to do the move out clean even after taking all of the time and expense to do it yourself.

This, versus hiring someone from the get go and simply crossing one thing off of what is probably already a very daunting list. We call it closure. And closure is a good thing 🙂
