How Often Should I Get My House Deep Cleaned? Here’s What I Do (Even Though I Work at a Cleaning Company)

Hi! I’m Sandra, and I manage customer service here at Dallas Sunrise Maids. I talk to homeowners every day who ask me the same question:
“How often should I deep clean my house?”

It’s a great question—especially if you already have a regular cleaning routine but feel like things still get grimy fast.

And here’s something most people are surprised to hear:
Even though I work at a professional cleaning company, I still schedule a deep cleaning for my own home every 3–4 months.

Why? Because deep cleaning is different. It’s not about wiping surfaces—it’s about tackling the stuff that builds up quietly over time.

Let me break down what I’ve learned after years of seeing what works (and what gets missed).

What Is a Deep Clean, Exactly?

A deep cleaning goes beyond surface-level tidying. It includes:

  • Scrubbing baseboards, trim, and doorframes
  • Cleaning inside kitchen appliances like ovens and microwaves
  • Dusting vents, ceiling fans, and light fixtures
  • Getting behind and underneath furniture
  • Wiping cabinet doors and interior shelves
  • Scrubbing tile grout and corners in bathrooms

Basically, it’s the kind of work that’s easy to avoid—but makes a huge difference once it’s done. And according to the American Cleaning Institute, most homeowners underestimate how often certain parts of their home need attention—especially inside appliances and behind furniture.

So, How Often Should You Get Your House Deep Cleaned?

Here’s what I recommend based on your lifestyle:

  • Every 3–4 months: This is what I do. It keeps things under control and gives the house a true reset.
  • Monthly: If you have allergies, pets, a large household, or entertain guests often.
  • Twice a year (minimum): Especially in spring and fall, or before/after major events or travel.
  • Once a year: If you’re consistent with regular cleanings and live a pretty low-traffic lifestyle.

Why I Schedule Deep Cleaning Every 3–4 Months

  1. Because regular cleaning doesn’t cover everything
Even if I’m wiping counters and vacuuming weekly, the dust still builds up in places I can’t reach or forget about.
  2. Because it resets my home (and my mindset)
There’s something about a professionally deep cleaned house—it just feels lighter. The air smells better. The house feels calm again.
  3. Because I don’t want to do it myself
I could technically do it on a Saturday… but I’d rather spend time with my family. Our crew does it way better and faster than I ever could.
  4. Because I’ve seen what happens when people wait too long
Waiting until your home feels dirty usually means the work (and the cost) goes up. I’d rather stay ahead of it.

Should You Get a Deep Clean Now?

If you’re wondering how often to deep clean your home, here’s a quick gut check:

  • You’ve never cleaned behind your fridge or stove
  • Your bathroom still feels dingy after you clean it
  • You’re sneezing more than usual
  • You’ve got pets or little ones
  • You’re hosting soon or just had people over

If any of those hit home, it might be time.

Deep Cleaning FAQs – Answered by Me! (Sandra from Dallas Sunrise Maids)

Q: How often should I get my house deep cleaned?
Most homes benefit from a deep cleaning every 3 to 4 months. If you have pets, allergies, or a busy household, you may want to schedule one monthly. At a minimum, we recommend twice a year to stay ahead of buildup.

Q: What’s included in a deep house cleaning?
Our deep cleans go beyond the basics. We tackle baseboards, vents, ceiling fans, inside appliances, behind furniture, cabinet interiors, and grout scrubbing—plus all the detail work that doesn’t happen during standard cleaning.

Q: Do I need a deep clean if I already have regular cleaning service?
Yes! Regular cleaning maintains your home. Deep cleaning resets it. Even with weekly cleanings, dust and grime sneak into corners, under appliances, and inside cabinets. A deep clean fills in the gaps.

Q: When’s the best time to schedule a deep cleaning?
Here are a few great times:

  • Before or after hosting guests

  • After a renovation

  • When moving in or out

  • At the start of a new season (spring/fall)

  • When allergies flare up or you notice lingering odors

Q: Can I just do it myself?
Of course you can—but it’s a big job. Most of our clients say they’d rather spend their weekend doing anything else. Our team is faster, more thorough, and brings all the supplies so you don’t have to lift a finger.

Q: How do I schedule a deep cleaning with you?
Easy! Just call us or request a quote online. I’ll walk you through the details and help you pick the right service for your home—no pressure.
