Do you ever feel like your refrigerator and freezer are a total mess? If so, you’re not alone. A lot of people have trouble organizing these appliances, and it’s easy to see why. There’s only so much room in there, so food is often randomly piled on top of each other, making it difficult to find what you need. This daily search can be both a waste of time and money, and if you’re like a lot of people, you may not have much of those to spare!
So, in this blog post, we will provide some tips for organizing your refrigerator and freezer. You’ll find that it only takes a little bit of effort to turn that cluttered mess into an organized space!
1) Label Everything
Yes, everything, with both their contents and dates. This will help you keep track of what food items are where, and it will also make it easier to find any spoiled items. You can use a simple label maker or even just tape and a marker to get the job done.
It may sound like a big job, but labeling everything doesn’t have to be time-consuming. You can do it as you’re putting away groceries, and it really only takes a few extra minutes. But, it will make a big difference in the long run!
2) Use Pantry Organizers
Another way to help organize your fridge and freezer is to throw some common pantry organizers in there. For example bins, baskets, lazy Susans, etc. After all, who says they’re just for the pantry?
These are great for getting everything in its place, making your fridge and freezer much easier to navigate. Best of all, the right pantry organizers really can make a world of difference in how these appliances look and function.
3) Flatten Packages Before Freezing
If you’re someone who likes to buy in bulk or cook ahead of time, then you probably have a lot of frozen food. And, if you’re like most people, those packages take up a ton of space and are always getting lost in the back of the freezer. But, there’s an easy fix for that!
All you have to do is flatten the packages before you put them in the freezer. Not only will this save you a ton of space, but it will be much easier to find your desired items. Plus, it’s really not that hard to do. Just pop whatever you’re freezing into a Ziploc bag, remove as much air as possible, and then flatten it out – a rolling pin will definitely do the trick! Then, you can stack the flattened packages on top of each other, making them much easier to organize and store.
4) Rearrange the Shelves
If you’re struggling to make everything fit in your fridge or freezer, then you may want to consider rearranging your shelves. This can be a great way to customize the space to better suit your needs.
In fact, you may also want to think about removing some of the shelves altogether. If you have a lot of tall items, for example, then this can give you a lot more room in the long run. Just be sure that whatever you do, you’re still able to easily access everything that you need. Otherwise you may be defeating the purpose!
